Often times we end up being where we never imagined we would go. Sometimes we are good with this and sometimes we have a harder time swallowing it. These are thoughts we were tossing around in the car one day.
It's funny because when I was young and living the Florida life, we would always talk and dream about living in the mountains. For us, "our" mountains were the Colorado Rockies. Dad grew up there, we always visited family there. We dreamed of a life out West and it was nothing but wonderful, as most dreaming is. I don't think any of us would have imagined life to go the way it has.
I ended up in those Colorado Rockies and being swept off my feet by a true Coloradan. Though he's not the cowboy I daydreamed about, he managed to wrangle my heart and I'm better for it. These North Carolina mountains we now call home, they are the last place we ever imagined being.
The backwoods where up sometimes feels like the only normal, but where a few small-town folk call us friend. The swallowing beauty of forest putting God's glory on display and our smallness in its place. The culture that shoves typical out the window but opens the door to beauty of a different kind.
These mountains, this life -- we would have never chosen it. We would have never chosen the valleys that led us here or the valleys we've traveled since. But thank God for His wisdom and plan. For His good always having its way.
When the sun finally sets on the days of our living, may the life we lived tell the story of the faithful God who led us on the adventure of the unexpected and the trail of glory He left along the way.
p.s. I thought you might like to know these pictures were taken on my phone in a span of twenty minutes while we were driving. All those color changes: Amazing!
Even if you don't have a scenic backdrop where you are, find the beauty around you and be amazed!
