The boy in our house isn't the only one enthralled with superheroes. As a society, we are kind of taken with the whole supernatural, paranormal world. Yet with all the intrigue the entertainment industry feeds, we don't really take these things serious in real life. I began a book this week by Chip Ingram that I think you should know about!
I'm only a few chapters in, but The Invisible War book brings to light a reality we Jesus followers might not take serious enough -- we are born into a warzone. "The souls of men and women, of little boys and girls, of people of every nationality and color and language all over the planet are at stake. The enemy seeks to blind us all to the truth, to dull our souls and ruin our lives. That's what spiritual warfare is all about."
We tend to be distracted by many seen things, but pay little mind to the more powerful unseen things. Our discouragement, our misery, our hardships wear us down until little by little our effect in this world gets stripped away. "The struggle is real" takes on a whole new meaning because we are in a war, friends! A war that requires our heads to be in the game, our prayers to be focused and fervent, our hearts united and unwavering in pursuing and worshipping God Almighty. The greatest superpower we possess is the ability to pray. The invisible war has eternal effects which means the people around us need us to back them in relentless prayers. Reading this book is reminding me of the bigger picture so I can stay alert in the day to day living.
Can I encourage you today, at the very least, to pray fervently for someone who you know is struggling? If you get the chance to check this book out at the library or pick one up at the bookstore, go do it! I think you might find it to be a game changer for your walk with Christ!
